Banana Foster…simple & easy!

I made this Banana Foster for dessert last night…YUM!!! It was so easy, and so good…I wouldn’t mind making it tonight also! :) I came across this recipe while watching The Nate Show yesterday…while at the gym. Yes, I know, very hypocritical…but its okay…right?

Banana Foster

Ingredients
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
2 bananas (sliced into ½ inch pieces)
½ cup dark brown sugar
½ cup orange juice
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ stick butter (chilled and cubed)

Directions

1. In a medium sauté pan, heat on medium the orange juice, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract. Gently stir. Cook until reduced by a third or when sauce appears to become syrupy (approximately 5 to 7 minutes).

2. Add bananas and continue stir for about a minute or until the bananas are coated.

3. Cut off heat and stir in chilled butter constantly until fully incorporated in sauce.

4. Place two scoops of vanilla ice cream into bowl and pour bananas foster on top.

5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, toffee, or walnuts if desired. Eat and enjoy!

Chignon

Honestly, I have probably never heard of the term ‘Chignon’ until I started using Pinterest. Yes I’ve seen and done this style before myself, but now I have a term to refer to :) The actual definition according to Google is: A knot or coil of hair arranged on the back of a woman's head. Here’s a simple DIY for  you ladies to try.

I love the lace detail with the chignon - simple & elegant.

Design Quiz

Here are a few fun things for you all to try…a design style and color personality quiz on Better Homes & Gardens. My design style ended up Polished Casual & color personality was Honey. I agree with the polished casual, but I’m not too sure about honey. I mean I do love the color, I just didn’t expect it :) Let me know what your quizzes reveal…I would love to hear! :)

¡Hola, Empanada!

Welcome to Tasty Tuesday! As some of you may know, my husband and I, along with our families, went to Mexico for vacation last week. We had such a great time, but sadly only had a chance to eat real Mexican food only once…but it was VERY good! We went on a Mayan Jungle expedition, and at the end of our adventures the local community made a traditional Mexican meal for us.

It included several dishes made in clay pots over a wood charcoal fire. One of the side dishes was empanadas…SO good! They had three varieties: mashed potatoes, black beans, & chicken. My favorite was the mashed potato & my husband loved the chicken (of course…it’s meat!) But I thought I would give them a try at home. I did some searching for recipes and came across these…

Chicken Empanada

There are SO many other things you can fill the empanadas…sweet or savory…click here to see some ideas on Pinterest. Has anyone ever made homemade Tortillas or Empanadas? My friend and I made vegetarian empanadas in a cooking class once…and those were very good too, but they used store bought dough…I will love to make my own and fried, not baked. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to make it in the next couple of days…let me know if you have any tips!
